Joomla 3.0 Tutorial on how to make certain article titles in your Featured Article list non-clickable.  You can easily perform this by first editing the Article Options in your menu item and then at the article level Article Options.   In my example, my menu item ‘Home’ displays all my featured articles.  Then I want my first Featured Article Title not to be clickable.  Below is a Joomla 3.0 tutorial on how to do this.

Overview of How to Make First Featured Article Title Not Clickable

1. Go to Main Menu Menu Manager
2. Click on ‘Home’ Menu Item
3. Change Linked Titles Setting in Home Menu Item
4. Go to Content featured articles
5. Edit the First Featured Article
6. Change Linked Titles Settings in Featured Article Options
7. See First Featured Article Title Not Clickable

Steps:

1.  Go to Main Menu Menu Manager

My default home page displays Featured Articles.  To make a title of a Featured Article unclickable, you have to edit the menu item holding the featured articles and also the featured article.   My ‘Main Menu’ holds the default homepage menu item.

• Login to your Joomla 3.0 Administrator Backend
• Click on ‘Menus’, ‘Main Menu‘

2.  Click on ‘Home’ Menu Item

My Home Menu item is the default homepage which displays Featured Articles.  You can see the menu type below the menu item name.

• Click on ‘Home‘ Menu item

3.  Change Linked Titles Setting in Home Menu Item

Change the Article Options in the Home Menu Item.  You can access the Article Options from the Advanced Options tab.  Change the ‘Linked Titles’ setting to ‘Use Article Settings’.

• Click on ‘Advanced Options’
• Click on ‘Article Options’
• Set the following value:
  • Linked Titles = Use Article Settings
• Click on ‘Save & Close’

4.  Go to Content Featured Articles

Go to your Featured Articles Content Manager.

• Click on ‘Content’
• Click on ‘Featured Articles‘

5.  Edit the First Featured Article

Find the Featured Article that you want to make this change to.  You can see from the ‘Ordering’ column, which featured article is displayed first/at the top of your site.  I want the title of this featured article not clickable.

• Edit the Featured Article title

6.  Change Linked Titles Settings in Featured Article Options

Change the Article option in the Featured Article to not show linked titles.

• Click on ‘Article Options’
• Set the following value:
  • Linked Titles = No
• Click on ‘Save & Close’

7.  See First Featured Article Title Not Clickable

Now you can visit your Joomla 3.0 website and view the frontend of your site.   As you can see from the screenshot you can see the first featured article title on my site is not clickable.
