Joomla 1.6 Help – Trying to change the featured article settings to show 2 columns instead of 3 and the number of articles to show 10 instead of only 4. I went to the normal place of featured article settings but the frontpage layout still did not change. It was very puzzling. What I did to change the featured article settings and didn’t change:
1. Login to Joomla 1.6 backend administrator
2. Click on Content, Article Manager
3. Click on the ‘Options’ button on the right
4. Click on the Article Manager Options, Blog/featured articles tab
5. Set the following values: (eg change columns = 2 and number of articles to show on frontpage = 10)
- # Intro Articles = 10
- # Columns = 2
6. Click on Save & Close.
After saving the Featured Article options the Frontpage did not change layout. Very strange. So next step was to check the default Menu Menu item. You know, the menu item with a beside it. This is the menu item for your Frontpage of your Joomla 1.6 website. And lo and behold, the answer was there. In the layout options it states:
Guess what, none of the fields there were blank. So the values in my Main Menu, Home menu item was overriding my featured articles Article Manager settings (Global Settings). So there are 2 ways to fix this problem.
- Override Global Settings – Change your layout options here
7. Login to your Joomla 1.6 administrator backend.
8. Click on Menus, Main Menu .
9. Edit the ‘Home’ menu item
10. Under Layout options, change the values here.
11. Chose to Override Global Settings, just change the above values to your desired layout.
- # Intro Articles = 10
- # Columns = 2
12. Click on Save & Close.
After you refresh your Joomla 1.6 website it should reflect your desired featured articles layout options.

I saw this article and I was sure i found the solution but I still have the same problem. I set both in the category settings as well as in the menu manager to 2 columns, 6 intro articles. leading 0. and multi-column order across and what i see is still 6 articles 1 in a row. Using joomla 1.7 =(
