Joomla 1.6 Help – How to Redirect Users Once Logged In

I’ve always wondered how to do this.  After users login to your Joomla 1.6 website you can redirect registered users to a designated landing page.  This will be useful if you have a special News bulletin, a survey or a customized splash page that you want registered users to see/read or answer after they login. The page must be an internal page link in your website and not an external one.   You can set a landing page in your Menu Manager:

These steps are assuming you have the default Joomla 1.6.3 installation:

1.  Login to your Joomla 1.6 administrator backend.

2.  Click on ‘Menus’, ‘Main Menu’, Edit your ‘Login’ menu item.

3.  Under ‘Basic Options’, set “Login Redirect” = <insert the URL of the landing page>

After you save your options, try logging into your Joomla 1.6 website.  You will be redirected to a landing page specified in step 3.

Hope that helps,

Elaine

  1. Hi, I am trying to redirect a joomla login group to an article not available via the menu pages, ie a secret area, and hence it is not shown on the login redirect dropdown list and there is nowhere to put a direct url link?
How do I do it please
