Joomla 1.7 Tutorial –  This tutorial will show you how to easily create a navigational bar to point to links inside your existing article.   This is also called creating Article “Anchors”.    This is especially helpful if you have a really long article that spans over many screens.  Instead of asking your visitors to scroll vigorously down and through your article, you can create a link at the top of the article to point to specific location in your document.  You will use the Article Anchor icon:  

With my example, this tutorial will show you:

• Using Article “About Cmsmind.com”
• How to insert Article Anchors in the Joomla 1.7 Article
• Highlight Text to link to the Article Anchor
• Insert Link to the Article Anchor
• How to insert links to the Article Anchors – “Chapter 1” and “Chapter 2”.
• View the Article afterwards to test

1.  How to insert Article Anchors in the Joomla 1.7 Article

• Login to your Joomla 1.7 Administrator backend
• Click on Content, Article Manager
• Edit your article, for my example, I will edit “About Cmsmind.com”
• Please your cursor next to the heading “Chapter 1: About CmsMind.com”
• Click on the “Insert / Edit Anchor” icon: 
• In the window that pops up “Insert/Edit Anchor”, enter the following value:
• Anchor Name: Chapter1
• Click on Insert
• A Yellow Anchor will be inserted at the beginning of the Line.  Your article will now look like the screenshot below:

2.  Highlight Text to link to the Article Anchor – “Chapter 1”

• Highlight the text you want to link
• In my example – I highlight the text – “Chapter 1”

3.   Insert Link to the Article Anchor

• Click on the ‘Edit/Insert Link’ icon:
• In the new Insert/Edit Link window that pops up, enter in the following values:
• Link URL = #Chapter1
• Target = Not set
• Title = Chapter 1: About CmsMind.com
• Class = Not Set
• Click on Insert
• See the screenshot below:

4.  Repeat for Chapter 2 – About Elaine

• Article Anchor name = Chapter2
• Link URL = #Chapter2

Save your article and refresh your Joomla 1.7 website frontend.  Bring up your article that you added these article anchors to and test them out.  When you click on the links, the content that you anchored will be at the top of the page.
