Joomla 1.7 Help – How to Edit Template css files?

Joomla 1.7 Tutorial – Where is the “edit css” or “edit html” link in Joomla?

To put the edit css template link here is the best hiding place ever.  I searched for about 30 minutes trying to find where Joomla hid the edit template css link.  Before in previous version it was sitting on the menu bar as a link to edit the template css file.  Now it’s hidden in a remote location that would take forever to find.  But below I will show you how to find it very easily in the Template Manager.

For example: I want to edit the template css file for Beez_20 template.

How to edit your Template css file in the Template Manager by Elaine @ Cmsmind.com

1.  Login to your Joomla 1.7 Administrator backend

2.  Click on Extensions, Template Manager

3.  Click on the ‘Templates’ tab

4.  Use the filter to search for ‘Beez_20

5.  Under the ‘Template’ column, Click on ‘Beez_20 Details’ link

6.  Then you will see ‘Template Manager: Customize Template” where you can edit your template css files

  1. Hi Elaine,
Thanks alot. I almost wasted 35 minutes on searching these stupid stuffs. They really played a weird hide-n-seek with me 😉 Anyway thanks.

  2. I was thinking that editing css from back-end is dismissed in 1.7, and using ftp for every change on the css file. thanks very much…
best hiding place indeed : ]

  4. Hi,

I am starting out with Joomla 2.5 but I am not to css and html. There are a few issues that I need to resolve.

    1. I am using beez 2 template, and have manged to delete / remove all the positions that I do not want. I am now keen to reduce the width of position 7 and expand the width of position 12. I also need to change the font, font color and size of the text, and add a background color.

Which .css files should I be editing – there are so many of them !

    2. When you click “Getting Started” under About Joomla in position 7, “Getting Started at the top of position 12. I do not want this to happen on my pages. How do I do that ?

    3. When I created a new article, I wanted the text to appear about halfway down the page, so I clicked “Enter” a few times in the TinyMCE . The text appears where I want it to appear, but for every “Enter” press, there appears a horizontal line. How do I get rid of these lines ?

    Regards,

    Deepak

  6. What a totally stupid place to put these files. Thankyou Elaine. Like others, I was unable to find these files until a google search came up with your page.
