Joomla 2.5.8 Tutorial – How to Add Prev and Next Links to Articles

Joomla 2.5.8 Tutorial on how to add ‘Next’ and ‘Previous’ links to navigate between Joomla Articles.  You can choose to show or hide this feature.  It is beneficial to add these navigation links to your Joomla Articles so once people reached the bottom of your article they have somewhere to go.   They can choose to read the next or previous article.  If you don’t give them somewhere to go, they will probably leave your website.  Below is what my website looks like after adding the Article Navigation links – Next and Previous at the bottom of my Joomla Articles.

Overview of How to Add Previous and Next Links to Articles

  1. Edit Menu Item Category Blog
  2. Change Article Options in Category Blog Menu Item
  3. Go to Article Manager Global Options
  4. Show Article Navigation in Article Global Options

Steps:

1.  Edit Menu Item Category Blog

In my Joomla 2.5.8, I created a Category Blog Menu Item called ‘Elaine Articles’.  This blog has articles where I want to have the Article Navigation.  I think this is a feature that should be enabled in all my menu items so I will make this a global article change.  First I must make sure the article navigation setting is set to global in my menu item.

  • Expand ‘Article Options’

2.  Change Article Options in Category Blog Menu Item

Access the Article Global Options to make the change.   It’s located in the Article Manager.

  • Click on ‘Content’
  • Click on ‘Article Manager’
  • Click on ‘Options‘ button

4.  Show Article Navigation in Article Global Options

Change the value here in the Joomla 2.5.8 Article Global Options.  This will change the value for all article navigation if they are set to ‘Use Global’.

Joomla 2.5.8 Tutorial – Change Article Global Options to Show Article Navigation
  • Click on ‘Articles’
  • Set the following value:
    • Show Navigation = Show
  • Click on ‘Save & Close’

Now when you click on Articles on your site you should see the article navigation.  The next and prev links should display at the bottom of your articles.  If it does not show, you can also check the individual article navigation settings and make sure that is set to ‘Use Global’ as well.

You can also hide the Prev and Next links by setting the Show Navigation = Hide.

Hope that helps.  Please leave a comment if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Elaine
