Joomla 2.5 – How to Remove the Article Title from Read More Link

by Elaine on February 17, 2012

Joomla 2.5 Tutorial – They added some weird stuff into the new Joomla 2.5.  By default, Joomla 2.5 displays Article titles in the ‘Read More’ links at the bottom of articles.  I don’t know if I like seeing the Article Title in my “Read More” link.  So I went searching to remove this.  Below is a screenshot of what I mean:

Joomla 2.5 Shows Article Title with Read More Link

Overview of How to Remove the Article Title from the Read More link:

  • Go to Article Manager Options
  • Hide the Option to show the Article Title in Read More Link

1. Joomla 2.5 - Click on Article Manager

1.  Go to Article Manager Options

The Article Manager manages all aspects of how Articles are displayed to users in your Joomla 2.5 website.  It controls the options for categories, editing layout, blog/featured layouts, feed layouts, list layouts, permissions and more.

  • Login to your Joomla 2.5 Administrator
  • Click on ‘Content’, ‘Article Manager’
  • Click  on the ‘Options‘ button along the top right

2. Joomla 2.5 - Hide Article Title with Read More Link

2.  Hide the Option to show the Article Title in Read More Link

  • In the Article Manager Options, Click on the ‘Articles’ tab
  • Scroll down to Show Title with Read More, set the following value:
      • Show Title with Read More = Hide
  • Click on ‘ Save & Close’

Now you can refresh your Joomla 2.5 website frontend and all the article titles will disappear from your ‘Read More’ links.  It’s magic! lol

Hope that helps.

Thanks,

Elaine

For me the option is available in 2.5.6.
First it didn´t work, than i opened one article and saved it and it worked for all articles.

The “Show Title with Read More” option is not available in 2.5.6 (at least the installation I’m using). This is driving me nuts. It’s redundant to show the article in the link.

Ok, scratch my comment. Mis-read the tutorial and thought you were talking about the Article options in the Article editor itself. The solution is on the main Article Manager screen…. Clearly I’ve been digging around the core template files too long. ;) Problem solved!
