Joomla 2.5 is Stripping all Html Code

Joomla 2.5 Site Global Configuration

Updated: April 14, 2012 at bottom.  Added Step 9.

With an upgrade to Joomla 2.5, the option for text filtering automatically turns back on because the option has moved from the Article Manager to Global Configuration.  Text filtering is useful if you want to restrict authors from inserting tags or harmful HTML code into your articles that might cause errors to your site.   But as a Super User, most cases you need to add HTML code or IFRAME codes into your articles, so you will turn off text/html filtering.

In previous version – Joomla 1.7, this option was found in the Article Manager – Options (You can see the post here) but  Joomla 2.5, text filtering has moved to the Global Configuration.

See below how to turn off Text Filtering:

Joomla 2.5 - Global Configuration Text Filtering
3. Joomla 2.5 - Global Configuration Text Filtering

1.  Login to your Joomla 2.5 Administrator backend

2.  Click on Site, Global Configuration

3.  Switch to the ‘Text Filters” tab

4.  Under ‘Text Filter Settings’, ‘Filter Groups’, set the following:

    • Super Users = No Filtering

5.  Click on ‘Save & Close’

Joomla 2.5 - Set Super User No Filtering
4. Joomla 2.5 - Set Super User No Filtering

Now you can try to add HTML and IFRAME code into your Joomla 2.5 articles and  should not be stripping your code.  If you are still having problems, you can try the following:

6.  Go back into the ‘Text Filters’ tab and under ‘Filter Groups’, set:

    • Super Users = Default Black List

7. Click on ‘Save & Close’

8.Then repeat Step 4 and 5 above.

Updated from William’s Comment (Thanks William):

9.  TinyMCE is default editor. It also strips the iframe.

GO – Extensions -> Plug In Manager -> Editor – TinyMCE
Basic Options -> Prohibited Elements

remove iframe from the list

Hope that helps you.

Thanks,

Elaine

  1. Thanks! this tip just helped me out. Other people said to change the editor, but I was already using ‘Editor – None’ and this solved my problem.

  2. The header tag 1 is the path for search engines to sense your site. So, the H1 tag should highlighted with main keyword. You can use the other additional keywords in the H2 tag. Many websites fail to use the keyword properly in the header tags. Since header tags are going to define the content of your webpage, never ignore it.

  3. This was very helpful as I was still having problem with stripping of an iframe even after setting no filters in global configuration. It was the setting for my editor which was JCE. Hope it helps others with same issue.

  4. Thank you very much for this clear and concise explanation of ALL the places where Joomla! is stripping these tags from my code, very helpful indeed!

  5. Very helpful information!
Definitely saved a bunch of time and effort with this!
Now if we could just have it a bit higher in the google search for “posting a video in joomla” haha.
