Joomla 2.5 Tutorial – How to Add Site Title to Administrator Bar

by Elaine on June 1, 2012

If you manage multiple Joomla 2.5 websites it’s easier to identify the windows open with a Site Title.  Currently it just shows the title ‘Administrator’.   You can easily add the Site Title to Administrator Pages through the Template Manager in the backend.  Below is a screenshot of what your Administrator page will look like:

As mentioned previously, this is easily modified in the Template Manager settings.  Below is an overview of the steps to Add the Site Title to the Admin Bar:

  • Check the Site Title in Global Configuration
  • Locate & Edit Default Admin Template in Template Manager
  • Change Setting to Display Site Name in Template Manager

1. Joomla 2.5 Site Global Configuration

1.  Check the Site Title in Global Configuration

You can modify your site title any time after you install Joomla.  This will be the title displayed at the top of your Joomla website and also at the top of your Administrator page.  This will allow you to quickly identify which website you are working on.

  • Login to your Joomla 2.5 Administrator backend
  • Click on ‘Site‘, ‘Global Configuration
  • Under the ‘Site’ tab, Site Settings, see the Site Name field
  • Click on ‘Save & Close’

2.  Locate & Edit Default Admin Template in Template Manager

The Site Title setting is in the Administrator Template configurations.  So you will need to edit settings in the Template Manager.

2. Joomla 2.5 - Edit Default Administrator Template

  • Click on ‘Extensions’, ‘Template Manager’
  • Under the ‘Template’ tab
  • You will have to find the default Administrator template, you can identify it by:
    • Location = Administrator AND
    • Default has a orange star beside it
  • In my case, the default Administrator template = Bluestork – Default
  • Click on the template name to edit

3.  Change Setting to Display Site Name in Template Manager

3. Joomla 2.5 Show Site Title in Administrator

  •  In the Template Manager: Edit Style
  • Use the twisty to expand the ‘Basic Options’
  • Set the following value:
    • Show Site Name = Enabled
  • Click on ‘Save & Close’
  • Then you will get a message that says “Style successfully saved”

Now when you are in your Administrator you will always see the Site Title.  You can easily reverse this and hide the Site Administrator title by repeating the steps above and in Step 3 set the option to”Show Site Name = Disabled”.

Thanks,

Elaine
