Below is a simple tutorial on how to delete a folder inside your Media Manager. I also encountered an error message when trying to delete the folder which I will show you how to resolve. In my example, I am trying to delete the folder called ‘DeleteThisFolderElaine’.

- Go to Media Manager
- Select Folder to Delete in Media Manager
- Unable to Delete Folder Error Message in Media Manager

- Folder Successfully Deleted in Media Manager
Steps:
1. Go to Media Manager
Joomla 2.5 Media Manager is where you upload your images to use in Joomla articles, Joomla modules, Joomla menus, Joomla logos and more.
- Login to your Joomla 2.5 Administrator Backend
- Click on ‘Content’
- Click on ‘Media Manager’
2. Select Folder to Delete in Media Manager
In Joomla 2.5 Media Manager you can easily delete folders. You can use the steps below or you can just click on the ‘red x’ under the folder you want to delete. In my example, I am deleting the folder ‘DeleteThisFolderElaine’.
- In the Media Manager, under the ‘Thumbnail View’
- Use checkbox to select folder to delete
- Click on ‘Delete‘
3. Unable to Delete Folder Error Message in Media Manager
I got this error message when trying to delete my folder. This means there are files in the folder and before I can delete the folder, I have to delete the contents of the folder first.
- Got Error message when deleting folder. Message says:
- Unable to delete: Folder is not empty!
- So now must go into the folder to delete contents inside the folder
- Click on the folder name – Click on ‘DeleteThisFolderElaine‘
4. Delete Images Inside Folder in Media Manager
In the Media Manager – Delete the files inside the folder ‘DeleteThisFolderElaine’. You can use the ‘red x’ under the images or use the checkbox to select all the images and click on ‘Delete’.
- Use Checkbox to select images to delete
- Click on ‘Delete‘
5. Go Back to Main Folder in Media Manager
You are inside the folder that you want to delete, so now you must go back up one level to the parent folder.
- Click on the ‘Green up Arrow’
6. Select Folder to Delete in Media Manager
Now you can select the folder you want to delete again in the Media Manager. You can delete the folder by clicking on the ‘red x’ or use checkbox to select the folder and click on ‘Delete’.
- Use Checkbox to select folder to delete
- Click on ‘Delete‘
7. Folder Successfully Deleted in Media Manager
Now the folder is successfully deleted in the Media Manager. There is no Trash Manager in the Media Manager. Once you delete the folder, it’s gone forever.
- Successfully deleted the folder
- You will see a message that says:
- Delete Complete: /DeleteThisFolderElaine
You will see that the folder is deleted in Media Manager. It will no longer appear in the available folders.
