Joomla 2.5 – Edit Profile Displays Basic Settings

Joomla 2.5 Tutorials – This tutorial will step through how to remove/hide the ‘Basic Settings‘ from the User Profile.   When registered users log in to your Joomla 2.5 website, they have an option to manage their profile.  Users can click on the ‘Your Profile’ link and see and edit their name, username, password and additionally they are able to edit their:

Basic Settings:

  • Editor = No Information Entered
  • Time zone = No Information Entered
  • Frontend language = No Information Entered

Even for me, this information is confusing not to mention a user of your site.  You can opt to hide these options to minimize confusion this will cause.  Below I will show you how to hide these options.  This is the high level overview:

Joomla 2.5 - Go to User Manager
1.  Joomla 2.5 – Go to User Manager

1.  Go to User Manager Options in User Manager

  • Login to your Joomla 2.5 Administrator Backend

In the Frontend parameters you will set the option to remove basic settings from the User Profile.

  • Scroll down to the option – Frontend User Parameters, set the value:
    • Frontend User Parameters = Hide
  • Click on ‘Save & Close’

2. Joomla 2.5 – Hide Basic Settings in User Profile

Now you can refresh your Joomla 2.5 frontend.  Click on ‘Your Profile’.  The Basic Settings will be hidden.  If you want to show these settings again, just repeat step 2 and set Frontend User Parameters = Show.  See screenshot below, my ‘Basic Settings’ are hidden:

  1. Is there any way to hide the profile info entirely? I still have the fields-
    Name:
    Username:
    Reg Date:
    Last Visited date:

    showing
