Joomla 2.5 - Remove Site Administrator Link from Menu

Joomla 2.5 Tutorial – After you installed Joomla 2.5 and included the Sample Data, there is a link on your Beez_20 template that shows the ‘Site Administrator’ link.  This link is under ‘This Site’ Menu.  Now that your site is going live or people are visiting it, you should remove this link and not make the ‘Site Administrator’ link visible to visitors to your site.   So there are 2 questions to be answered:

A.  How to remove the Site Administrator link from the frontpage Menu?

B.  How to access the Site Administrator without the link visible?

Overview of how to answer A.  How to remove the Site Administrator link from the frontpage Menu?

  • Locate the Main Menu in the Menu Manager
  • Search for ‘Site Administrator’ link in Main Menu in Menu Manager
  • Delete ‘Site Administrator’ link from Main Menu in Menu Manager
  • Purge Trash in Menu Manager

Overview of how to answer B.  How to access the Site Administrator without the link visible?

  • Access your site from a different link /administrator

Joomla 1.7 - Default Main Menu

1.  Locate the Main Menu in the Menu Manager

The menus on the Frontpage are managed by the Menu manager in the backend.  There are menus and menu items.  ‘This Site’ is the parent Menu item of ‘Site Administrator’ but they all are found in the ‘Main Menu’ Menu.

  • Login to your Joomla 2.5 Administrator
  • Click on ‘Menus’, ‘Main Menu

2.  Search for ‘Site Administrator’ link in Main Menu in Menu Manager

There are many menu item links in the Main Menu, by default you only see 5 at a time.  You can choose to see more by using the drop down to make more visible.  You can search here for the ‘Site Administrator’ menu item.

Joomla 2.5 - Delete 'Site Administrator' link from Main Menu

  • Click on the checkbox beside ‘Site Administrator
  • Click on the button ‘Trash‘ at the top right

4.  Purge Trash in Menu Manager

Once you delete the menu item, it goes in ‘Trashed’ status.  You can purge it permanently or choose to restore it to your Main Menu.  I would purge it to keep your Main Menu clean.

5.  Access your site from a different link /Administrator

Now that you don’t have the ‘Site Administrator’ link on your Frontpage, how will you access your Joomla backend?  Easily you can access your site by simply adding /administrator to the end of your url.  For example:

http://www.yoursite.com/administrator

Hope that helps you,

Thanks,

Elaine
