Joomla 3.0 Tutorial – When I saved an article I got this error message:
Save failed with the following error: Another article from this category has the same alias
What does this mean? It means that you created an article with the same alias in the same category already in your Joomla 3.0 website. Or it’s also possible that you deleted an article with the same alias but it’s still in the trash. There are 2 things you can do to solve this issue. 1) Change the alias of your current article 2) Delete the Article from the Trash bin. The article alias is important in creating a Search Engine Friendly website because the alias is the direct link to your article. Please note that articles can have the same article title but not the same article alias. Below is a screenshot of the Article same alias error I got in Joomla 3.0:
Joomla 3.0 Error – Save failed with following error: Another article from this category has the same alias:
Joomla 3.0 – See Article Alias in Article Manager Publishing Options
Below is Overview of How to Change Article Alias in Joomla 3.0
- Go to Article Manager
- Edit Article in Article Manager
- Change Article Alias in Article Manager
Steps:
1. Go to Article Manager
Joomla 3.0 Article Manager you can create articles, edit, delete, change category, publish, unpublish articles and more.
- Login to your Joomla 3.0 Administrator backend
- Click on ‘Content’, ‘Article Manager’
2. Edit Article in Article Manager
In Joomla 3.0 Article Manager, edit the article you want to change the alias for. The alias must be a unique field and cannot duplicate within the same category. The alias serves as a direct link to the article. I will be editing my article – ‘6th CmsMind.com’.
- Click on the Article Title
3. Change Article Alias in Article Manager
Change the alias in the Joomla 3.0 Article Publishing Options. My previous alias was ‘6-Elaine-cmsmind’and now I changed it to the one below.
- Click on ‘Publishing Options’
- Change the Alias to something else
- Click on ‘Save & Close’
Now you should be able to save your article. If you still get the error, you might have to change your alias to something else. You can also empty the Article Manager Trash bin, my tutorial is here.
Hope that helps.

Thanks,
This is an article I look for. I just want to use an article alias that is different from an article title.
Thank you.
