Joomla 3.0 – How to Insert an Article in a Module?

Joomla 3.0 Tutorial – You can place articles anywhere on your  Joomla site with the help of a free Joomla Plugin.  Articles Anywhere is a free plugin that allows you to insert articles anywhere on your site.  You can place an articles in a module or in other Components.  Find the free plugin in the Joomla Extensions Directory (JED).  Below I’ve put together a Joomla tutorial on how to add the introtext of an article to the Beez3, position-7 (left nav position).

How to Include Article text in a Module

  1. Look for an Download Articles Anywhere in the JED
  2. Install Articles Anywhere Plugin in Joomla 3.0
  3. Go to Plugin Manager
  4. Edit the Articles Anywhere Plugin
  5. View the Description of the Articles Anywhere Plugin
  6. Go to Content Article Manager
  7. Find the Article ID of Article you Want To Include in Module
  8. Go to Module Manager in Joomla 3.0
  9. Add a New Module in Module Manager
  10. Select Custom HTML Module Type
  11. Enter in Module Details in Module Custom HTML
  12. Enter in Custom Output to Insert Article in a Module
  13. View Results in Frontend of Joomla 3.0 Website

Steps:

1.  Look for an Download Articles Anywhere in the JED

Go to the Joomla Extensions Directory where you can find this free plugin to insert articles into Components or modules.   No registration is necessary.

  • Go to Extensions.joomla.org
  • Search for ‘Articles Anywhere’
  • Click on ‘Download

2.  Install Articles Anywhere Plugin in Joomla 3.0

Now go to the Extensions Directory and install the Articles Anywhere plugin.  You can follow the tutorial I created before on how to install a Joomla Plugin in your Joomla 3.0 website.

Articles Anywhere (editor button & system plugin) has been installed successfully

3.  Go to Plugin Manager in Joomla 3.0

  • Click on ‘Extensions’
  • Click on ‘Plug-in Manager

4.  Edit the Articles Anywhere Plugin

Now we are going to check that the plugin is enabled.  It is enabled if it has a green checkmark beside it.  Usually there are instructions on how to use the plugin so I will click on the plugin to see what they are.

  • Status of the System-Articles Anywhere is active
  • Click on the plugin

5.  View the Description of the Articles Anywhere Plugin

In the Description of the Articles Anywhere plugin you will see instructions on how to use the plugin.

  • Click on ‘Description
  • It will show you how the code to add an article to your module.
  • I will be using the following:
    • Using the id of the article (next step I will find the article and article id)
      • ie: {article 123}…{/article}
    • Introtext
      • ie {introtext}
  • Click on ‘Close

6.  Go to Content Article Manager

Go to the Content Article Manager to view all the articles.

  • Click on ‘Content’, ‘Article Manager

7.  Find the Article ID of Article you Want To Include in Module

Now find your article that you want to include in a module and find the ID of it.  The ID column is at the far right.  I’m choosing the ‘Content Management Systems’ article.

  • The Article ID for ‘Content Management Systems’ article is 27
  • Save this number for future use in the Custom HTML module

8.  Go to Module Manager in Joomla 3.0

Each Joomla 3.0 Template has a template map.  The default template is Beez3 and I’m going to be adding the Article to module position 7, which is the top left navigation.   In the module manager you can manage what is seen on any page of your Joomla website.

  • Click on ‘Extensions’, ‘Module Manager

9.  Add a New Module in Module Manager

Add a New Module in Module Manager.  You can add as many modules as you want on your website.  You can choose which pages you want your module to be seen on as well in the Menu Assignment tab.

  • Click on ‘New

10.  Select Custom HTML Module Type in Module Manager

To add an article to a module, you must create a Custom HTML module type.  Here you can add your own HTML and you will add the HTML code provided in the instructions in the Articles Anywhere plugin that we saw in Step 5.

  • In the next window, click on ‘Custom HTML

11.  Enter in Module Details in Module Custom HTML

Enter in your own details of your Custom HTML module.  In my example, this will be seen in position-7 of the Beez3 template.   You can view the Beez3 module map here and decide where you want to place your Article and in which position.

  • In the ‘Details’ tab, enter the following information:
    • Status = Published
    • Title = Custom Elaine CmsMind
    • Show Title = Show
    • Position = Right [position-7]  (some reason i picked top left [position-7] and saved it, it automatically converted it to this value)
    • Access = Public
  • Click on ‘Custom Output

12.  Enter in Custom Output in Module Custom HTML

Now you can enter in the Custom HTML from Step 5 and the Article ID from step 7.

  • I want to add the article id = 27
  • I want to display the introtext only
  • In the text editor, I will enter the following value:
    • {article 27}{introtext}{/article}
  • Click on ‘Save & Close’

13.  View Results in Frontend of Joomla 3.0 Website

Now you can view the article introtext in the frontend in the position-7 position.  In the Beez3 template this is the top left position.   You can see in my screenshot below, it is precisely where it should be.

You can see that my Content Management System article is displayed in position-7 in the Beez3 template.  This is the easiest way to include an article in a module on your site.
