Joomla 3.0 – If you created a Menu item that is a Featured Article Blog, Category Blog or anything Article related you will notice in the ‘Advanced Options’ that all the Category options, Article options, Blog Layout options all have their settings set to ‘Use Global’. What does ‘Use Global‘ mean?? Where can you actually find the Global settings??
For screenshot below – In my Menu Item – ‘Use Global’ is set for all my Article Options:
Below I will show you where the Global settings are and also attempt to explain what does ‘Use Global’ mean.
What is ‘Use Global’ or Global Settings?
From Joomla Docs –
“As the name implies, Global Configuration is the area of the Joomla administrative interface where a user with Super Administrator attributes is able to make changes that globally affect the behaviour of the web site and also alter some default settings for the presentation of, and access to site content.”
Basically this means since there are many places where article attributes can be modified or changed, whether it be in the Category Manager, individual articles, Article Manager, or Menu Manager there is one central location where you as the administrator can make site wide change to the way you want to display your articles. If you use the ‘Use Global’ option to set all the article attributes, you can easily change the attributes across the board. You can also choose to override these Global options by setting your own value in these individual locations.
Where can you actually find the Article Global settings??
You can find the Joomla 3 Global Settings for Articles in the Article Manager.

Thanks,
Great article!
Can you tell me how to adjust the article parameters per category in Joomla 3.x?
The “parameters” button wich they used in 2.x is gone, and i can’t find the settings!
Thanks in advance!
