Joomla 3 Tutorial – How to hide the Article Hit Counter

This is a very simple tutorial on how to hide the Joomla 3 Article Hit Counter.  There are a couple ways to perform this task.    One way is to edit the Menu item which displays these articles or another way is to change it in the Article Global Options.

Below is an overview of the steps:

  1. Edit Menu Item in Menu Manager
  2. Change Article Options in Menu Manager – Advanced Options
  3. Hide Article Hits Information at Menu Item Level

OR

4.  Hide Article Hits Information at Article Global Options Level
– Articles Tab and Change Show Hits to Hide

Steps:

1.  Edit Menu Item in Menu Manager

In my screenshot above, you can see that I clicked on ‘Cmsmind Articles’ in the left navigation to see the article which has the hits information.  So if I want to remove or hide the hits or any article information I will need to find and edit the ‘Cmsmind Article’ menu item.  I remember my ‘Cmsmind Article’ menu item is located in my Main Menu.

  • Login to your Joomla 3.x Administrator Panel
  • Click on ‘Main Menu

2.  Change Article Options in Menu Manager – Advanced Options

Edit your menu item from where you see the Articles.  Whether it be a Joomla 3 Category blog or featured articles Blog, you can see it in the list of Menu items in the Menu you selected.  In my case, I will edit the ‘Cmsmind Articles’ Category Blog menu item to change my Article Hits information.

3.  Hide Article Hits Information at Menu Item Level

You can change the article options at the Menu item level where articles viewed under this menu will be changed.  For example, you can hide the hits info from the ‘Cmsmind Articles’ link but as soon as you click on a different menu item link you will see the article hits information again.  If this is fine for you, continue with this step.  But if you want the Article hits information to be hidden across the board globally on your site ie. you never want users to see hits information, you should change it in the Article Global Settings – Step 4.
