Joomla defaults all the articles you create to be published ie: publish status = “yes” and show on frontpage =”no” . If you need to change these defaults to not publish and show on frontpage defaults, here is a way to do it. You will need to edit your backend code so only change it if you really know what you’re doing.
- Login to your server backend, you will need to access the Joomla core files
- Find and edit the file ` administrator/Components/com_content/controller.php `
- Search for the ` editContent function` around line 445
To change the default Publish = No
- Find this code: $row->state = 1;
- Change it to: $row->state = 0;
To change the default Show on frontpage = Yes
Great, your saved my hair. Thanks

Hi,
What for Joomla 2.5?
Things there seem to be very different. Can you look back on your hack.
Solution for Joomla 2.5
Find and edit the file “components/com_content/models/form/article.xml”
Search for “state” and change the default value to “0”
Thats’s it!
