Following along the same path as my last post aboutsame alias error for a menu item, this is regarding categories. I created and deleted a parent category named ‘Test’. I later recreated another category also named ‘Test’ and after saving it the second time around I got an error message:
Could not save data. Error: Another category with the same parent category has the same alias.
I knew what to do this time because I had almost the same error message last time with theMenu Item alias. All you have to do is look in the ‘Trash’ed categories in the and empty the trash. This is how you emtpy the Trash categories from your website:
1. Login to your1.6 administrator backend.
2. Click on ‘Content’, ‘’.
3. Use the dropdown filters – ‘Select State’ = Trash
4. Use the checkbox to select the categories that were deleted.
5. Click on the top button ‘’.
That’s it. Switch your state back to ‘Select State’ = Select State and you will see all your published, unpublished, active, and trashed categories again. If you try to create the category again with the same name ‘Test’ you will have no error messages.
