Joomla 1.6 – How to Hide Article Details

After you install Joomla 1.6, you will see article details under the title of each article that you open.   These details can be a little annoying since they do not really provide useful information to the viewer.   I tend to just hide them (or remove) them so my website is a lot cleaner.  Now there is no clutter that takes away from my content.  Here is what Article Details look like:

Details
Category:  Joomla 1.6

Hits: 205

If you want to hide any of these article details, here are instructions how to remove them from your articles on your Joomla 1.6 website.

1.  Login to your Joomla 1.6 administrator backend.

2.  Click on ‘Content’, ‘Article Manager’, click on the ‘Options’ button on the right

3.  Set these options:

  • Show Category = Hide
  • Link Category = No
  • Show Author = Hide
  • Show Publish Date = Hide
  • Show Hits = Hide

4.  Save your Article Manager options.

After you refresh your website and load up another article, the article details should all be hidden.  If you want these details to be visible again on your Joomla 1.6 website, just follow the above steps and set them to “Show”.

thanks,

Elaine

  1. Not exactly like this actually. Althought i did what you advice here never worked. I have done as Article Manager–> Options–>Articles –> Default. After this following it works what i want

    1. Hi Mehmet,

The default shows all the article details. I just followed my directions again to hide them as per the post and was able to hide the article details. I’m not too sure why it didn’t work for you.

  2. I too am having this problem.
Above my article text are the lines “Category, Published, Written by, Hits”
I do not know how to remove them.
Going to “article options” column in Article Manager and changing “use global” to “hide”, saving, and then reloading the page does not seem to remove them.
    What am I not doing?
    Thanks

    1. Hi Bill,
Can you send me your website? Also check your category options and menu options to see if you selected those article details to be displayed. I would change them to “hide”.

  3. Hi Elaine,
Thank you for your reply. I am just learning the basics of Joomla, no real website yet.
Turns out that the article options located in the Menu Manager is the culprit, as you suggested. As soon as I selected “hide” in Menu Manager Article Options they were hidden. For some reason doing the same thing in the Article Manager does not accomplish the same results.
    My problem solved.
    Thanks again,
    Bill

  4. Elaine – This works fine for me except I still see the word “Details” just under the article title. How do I get rid of that?
    Thanks!

    1. Hi Beth,
hm, that’s interesting. I just upgraded my version to Joomla 1.6.3. Have you upgraded to the latest version yet? I don’t see the heading “Details” anymore. Try that and let me know.

  5. I am just setting up our church’s website and have been really helped by yours. I am perplexed what settings I can adjust to get rid of where it says:

    Contact

    Contact Form

just above my installed contact form. Actually, I wouldn’t mind living one or the other. I was able to change the two items from being links (to nowhere), but I am worried I’m going to regret it if I keep just trying to change this setting or that.

How can I eliminate this text short of rewriting the html?

    1. Hi Tim,

I think you’ve already created a menu for this component. Can you check in your menu manager, menu item ‘contact us’ to have the setting:

Page Display Options, Show Page Heading = No.

If it doesn’t work, let me know which contact component you installed and I will give it a try.

  6. Hi Elaine,
Can you help me on how to remove the word “Articles” from the top of an article page? If you go the the website and click on the menu buttons in the middle (Hair Transplant, Facial Fillers, etc) you can see that the word “Article” is on top of each page. I cannot get rid of them. Any expert advice? Thank you for your time.

  8. I’m working on a beta site that is in Joomla 1.6, I have hidden all of the article details but I’m getting a number 1 above all my single articles. Would you have any idea what setting that is to turn off or what could be causing that. I’ve never had this happen before in Joomla 1.5, thanks!

here is the link to see what I’m talking about: http://beta.fcibglobal.com/about-fcib.html?layout=blog

    1. Hi Kelli,
Did you recently install any new plugins?

Open your Plugin Manager (Extensions > Plugin Manager) and locate the Plugins with a type = ‘content’.

It may be the Article Rating or Page Navigation plugins that are causing this, or you may have other plugins enabled which cause the output. To figure out which plugin it is, you can disable the plugins, one at a time, and reload the page each time.

Let me know if you find anything,

  9. I was able to remove the #1 from all of articles by going to the Plug-In manager and Disabling the “System – Language Filter” This removed the number 1 from all of my articles just like what you had

    1. Hi AR,
Thanks so much for your tips. I will add your comment as a post later(with credit to you) to help others who are having same problem.
      Thanks for your visit,

  10. No problem. I also forgot to mention that I had just installed KuneaDiscuss and KuenaSearch plugins for the Kuena Message Board. The 1’s appeared because I had the plugins listed as “Public” but my messahe board forum is only for registered users. Once I made the plugins “Registered” instead of “public” my issues were gone. I take it that the plugin was looking for the main componet, and just held a place for it, but with the component not available for guest or non-registered users, it was lost. Finally, once I logged in from the front-end as a user….the numbers were gone as well, and replaced by…you got it…the KuenaDiscuss tab

    Hope this helps someone

  11. Hello there

I have the opposite problem. I want the publish date to show up but it does not- even if I’m setting the article options to ‘show’…

  12. Hello,

I am trying to remove the title of the “featured article” and have turned off titles on articles everywhere but the title of the featured article still shows up. I am new to Joomla and have just been playing with the “Beez_20” template to get the hang of things. Any insight as to how to turn this off would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Chris

  13. In repsonse to Chris.

I had the same problem and found this page while looking for a solution.

I have figured it out myself.

Select the menu which contains your home page as that is where the featured articles are displayed.

Click on the title of the homepage

On the right hand side click “article options”
    First option is “show title”

    select “hide” from the options
click save at the top of the page

It would appear that global setting do not include features atricles

    Hope this helps

    Mark
