Joomla 1.7 – What’s new

Joomla 1.7 RC1 was released July 12, 2011 and I started testing it out.  You can download the RC1 version from Joomla.org.  Other important milestone dates to keep track of are:

Joomla 1.7 GA (general availability) is due to be released on 19 July 2011. The planned milestone after this date are:

  • 19 August 2011 – Joomla 1.6 reaches end of life and is no longer supported
  • January 2012 – Next version of Joomla is released
  • February 2012 – Joomla 1.7 reaches end of life and is no longer supported
  • April 2012 – Joomla 1.5 reaches end of life and is no longer supported

I decided to keep a list of new features that I found with Joomla 1.7.  As newer version are released to the public, I will continually try to add as many new features that I find to this list.  Currently they are listed below:

  1. Random Table Prefix in Database Configuration
  2. Article Manager Batch Processing
  3. Weblink Manager Batch Processing
  4. Save Search Term in Search Menu Item
  5. Mass Mail Exclude/Include Disabled Users
  6. Grant Access to Frontend while Site is Offline
